About Dr. Alleyne

A confident woman with natural curly hair, wearing a shiny beige blouse and black pants, standing with arms crossed and smiling against a plain background.

I am Dr. Cherishe Alleyne, MD, DM Psychiatry. I believe that caring for your mind is just as important as caring for your body — and I’m here to help you do both through the clinic I lead. At Dr. Alleyne | Mind & Wellness, my mission is to provide confidential care and compassionate support, meeting patients wherever they are in their journey.

My first exposure to psychiatry began in Grenada, where my interest in the field first started to grow as a student at St. George’s University, School of Medicine. I later received further training in the United Kingdom, where I built a strong foundation in evidence-based psychiatric care. Upon returning to the Caribbean, I continued to build my expertise by working across several hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago, where I gained valuable experience within diverse healthcare systems and patient populations. I am now based primarily in Tobago, where I practice as a psychiatrist. These experiences shaped the way I practice today: combining international standards with a deep understanding of Caribbean culture and community.

Over the years, I have supported patients facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, psychosis, substance addiction, memory issues and the psychiatric effects of chronic illness.

As someone of Caribbean heritage, I recognize how culture, family, and identity deeply influence mental health — how it is experienced, expressed, and accepted. This background allows me to connect with patients in a way that feels relatable and respectful, particularly in the Caribbean context where stigma and cultural values often shape how people approach psychiatric care.

My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and supportive, with a focus on building resilience and fostering hope. I take a collaborative, whole-person approach—working closely with patients to set meaningful goals, create manageable steps, and develop strategies that fit their lives. Treatment may include supportive therapy, psychotherapy, medication management, and, where appropriate, complementary strategies such as dietary considerations, breathing exercises, and movement—all tailored to the individual. Every recommendation is based on scientific evidence to ensure safe, effective care.

I am deeply passionate about psychoeducation. I believe knowledge is empowering, and I dedicate time to helping patients and families better understand their conditions, treatments, and pathways to recovery. By demystifying mental health, I aim to reduce stigma and equip individuals with the tools they need to thrive.

Ultimately, my mission is to help people find balance, peace of mind, and renewed strength — knowing they are not alone, and that healing is always possible.
